Cello-Debbie Calkins Kollgaard
Debbie is a professional cellist who has taught private cello since 1979. Although most of her teaching consists of private students, she has also coached many cello sections of Jr. High, High School, and youth orchestras, has been an adjudicator for youth orchestra auditions, and has taught an after school program for elementary students who could not afford private lessons. She plays with the Pasadena Symphony and Pops,the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, and is a freelancer. She is also a member of the Miskey Mountain Boys, a bluegrass band whose musical style is classical-bluegrass-jazz or “classgrazz.”
She has a Bachelors degree in Music Education from Arizona State University and a Masters degree in Cello performance from Northwestern University. Her teachers include Hans Jorgen Jensen (Northwestern University), Leonard Chausow (Chicago Symphony), Takayori Atsumi (Arizona State University), Samuel Mayes (Los Angeles Philharmonic), and Mstislav Rostropovich (soloist).
